What does a CMMS do?

A CMMS(Computerised Maintenance Management System) is a software system that centralises maintenance data, simplifies procedures and automates recurring tasks to increase productivity. These software solutions are often also referred to as maintenance software. All data relevant to maintenance is stored in a central database. It contains a data model in which information about the equipment to be maintained as well as the necessary plans and work instructions are stored. In addition, the system is used to organise the necessary materials and other resources.

Order processing in CMMS

Order process CMMS

  1. Recording the maintenance requirements

The maintenance requirement is triggered in the CMMS by the defined maintenance strategy (preventive planned, condition-oriented, reactive...).

  2. Order entry

A maintenance order is generated in the maintenance software either manually or automatically.

  3. Order preparation

Before the order can be processed, deadlines and capacities must be planned and work instructions and, if necessary, other documents must be generated. This process step in particular is greatly simplified by suitable software.

  4. Order monitoring

Are all current maintenance orders on schedule? Continuous budget and deadline monitoring creates transparency.

  5. Order feedback

Especially for mobile use, the response times and synchronisation intervals should be short.

  6. Analysis and evaluation

Data evaluation and analysis is the basis for optimising decision-making processes and applied forecasting models.
